Synopsis

The afternoon of September 18, 1961, a Douglas DC-6 belonging to Transair Sweden plummeted from the sky. On board were Dag Hammarskjöld, the United Nations' second Secretary-General, and a crew of fifteen others. Their flight, bound for Northern Rhodesia, was intended to facilitate cease-fire negotiations amidst the escalating turmoil of the Congo Crisis. The aircraft crashed, claiming the lives of all sixteen people aboard.
