Synopsis
On the evening of October 31, 1996, TAM Transportes Aéreos Regionais Flight 402 plummeted from the sky moments after departing São Paulo–Congonhas Airport. It crashed into a densely populated residential district, resulting in the deaths of all 96 passengers and crew aboard, as well as three people on the ground. The cause of the disaster was determined to be the unintended activation of a malfunctioning thrust reverser on the right engine.
