Synopsis

On January 31, 2000, a catastrophic mechanical failure struck Alaska Airlines Flight 261 when its trimmable horizontal stabilizer jammed and detached from the flight control system. The aircraft subsequently plunged, inverted, into the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the loss of all eighty-eight people aboard.
