Synopsis

Maude organized a gathering in honor of a prominent Black activist, extending invitations to wealthy white liberals without disclosing the event’s fundraising purpose. Simultaneously, she made considerable efforts to secure the attendance of an actual Black couple, ultimately having to settle for Florida in disguise. The situation was hardly improved by Arthur, who had prescribed tranquilizers for Maude; during the party itself, she inadvertently combined them with her drinks.
