Allison Tate had been a child when she stumbled upon the lifeless forms of her parents, victims, it seemed, of a home invasion. Years later, just after her twenty-first birthday, she encountered another tragedy: the death of Marsha Gold, who too had fallen prey to a similar crime. The discovery plunged Allison back into the familiar confines of the Linder Sanitarium, where she’d largely resided since her parents' deaths. Now, Bob Ranier—a former business partner of her father and something akin
