Synopsis

In the Great Hall of the University of Birmingham, four individuals compete for a spot in the semi-finals. Their subjects are: David Winpenny, National Parks Campaign co-ordinator, presenting on English architecture from 1600 to 1900; William Tighe, historian, discussing the reign of Elizabeth I of England; Hendy Farquhar-Smith, teacher, exploring the history of Edinburgh between 1745 and 1815; and Bill Muir, Inspector of Taxes, examining the works of Dornford.
