I don’t want to be overly critical, but I need to explain where I’m coming from. I encountered Martin Lawrence back in 2016. Prior to that point, my exposure to him was through Def Comedy Jam. Then came Bad Boys and his films, and this performance feels like seeing Bob Saget's stand-up routine after only being familiar with his work on Full House—it’s a strange contrast. Perhaps it would have been an excellent show for those who are just getting to know him; however, for viewers who already have some history with Martin Lawrence, the material comes across as significantly toned down.
