Spanning eight episodes and roughly eight hours in total length, the series explores the experiences of everyone connected to the case, primarily focusing on James R. Fitzgerald, an FBI criminal profiler. Sam Worthington portrays Fitzgerald, while Paul Bettany takes on the role of Ted Kaczynski, the Unabomber. Both actors gained recognition through their involvement in the Avatar and Marvel franchises, respectively, and deliver solid performances; Bettany’s portrayal is particularly captivating and stands out considerably. The editing style shifts noticeably, seeming somewhat disjointed at times, and the show's creators eventually abandon this technique around the midpoint, creating a jarring effect. The series also experiences a slight dip in momentum during its middle section, and some familiar investigation tropes appear. A significant issue is the difficulty in maintaining balance between the investigative elements and the courtroom proceedings; one frequently takes precedence over the other. Presenting the narrative in a more straightforward sequence would have been preferable.
