Season Rating: 5/10 Overall Rating: 5/10 I decided to check out the television series after seeing the first movie and intending to watch the second, figuring it wouldn’t hurt. Like the initial film, this isn't particularly good. However, it functions better as a TV show than it would have as a feature-length movie. The brief episode lengths are important; if they were even ten minutes longer each, I probably wouldn’t have bothered watching; around twenty minutes per episode seems like a clever decision. It still felt like an obligation to get through, though it does possess a strange sort of appeal... somewhat. Moments of self-awareness do provide some assistance. I didn't dislike the five main actors, although Alkoya Brunson (as Eric) stood out and was the only one who genuinely entertained me, even if just intermittently. Jeremy Howard (Vooch) is mildly amusing as well. The cast are acceptable overall; it’s really the writing and direction that fall short. All of the storylines feel uninspired and lack originality, at least from my perspective. A bit more innovation would be welcome. There are definitely worse programs available, but 'Malibu Rescue' isn't exactly a shining example of quality television.
