Synopsis

A bitter cold gripped the camp, save for Hawkeye, who had been fortunate enough to receive long johns from his father. These became a prized possession, circulating endlessly among the men – sometimes offered as a gift, other times wagered in games of chance, bartered for favors, or even stolen. Occasionally, they found their way to Father Mulcahy, who would then pass them on to Henry Adams, who in turn returned them to Hawkeye as gratitude for the surgeon’s skillful removal of his appendix.
