David Mitchell gave a wonderful performance in "Upstart Crow," which was a humorous and frequently perceptive retelling of William Shakespeare’s life. "Ludwig" gives Mitchell an opportunity to portray a character who is unusual, captivating, and occasionally witty, but it's rarely laugh-out-loud funny. The series functions effectively as a crime drama with intricate puzzles and investigative aspects, yet I didn't find it particularly entertaining. The repeated demonstration of his character’s inability to park a car alongside his capacity for solving complicated crimes creates an interesting juxtaposition, though it doesn't elicit much laughter. Overall, the six-episode series is worth watching for its clever puzzle and sleuthing components, but don't anticipate the kind of humor you would normally connect with Mitchell’s work. Nevertheless, so many other aspects are worthwhile that I personally don’t think the lack of comedy diminishes it significantly; it’s certainly deserving of a viewing.
