Synopsis

Lovejoy’s acquaintance, a purveyor of traveling amusements, sought his assistance in selling a set of silver candlesticks. But before a transaction could be finalized, the constabulary arrived, declaring the candlesticks to be stolen goods. The vendor, Boswell, was taken into custody. Simultaneously, an American companion of Charlotte expressed interest in purchasing the fairground’s carousel.
