As they prepared to depart their own world, the Robinsons encountered a young alien boy named J-5. They resolved to take him along, intending to return him to his home planet. Their journey led them to an unusual vessel, which they discovered was an Earth beacon – a kind of lighthouse for ships lost amongst the stars.
