Synopsis

The tenement collapsed, leaving only one casualty: Joseph Haden. The building's rent-controlled status and a recent tenant strike had initially led the police to suspect arson. However, the landlord’s lack of insurance eliminated that possibility. The medical examiner’s findings were more disturbing; Haden’s neck had been broken, and he had been bound before the explosion. Unraveling Haden's identity proved a challenge. He seemed to have no family or romantic connections, receiving little mail.
