Synopsis

Patty, barely a woman and still clinging to the city, had come reluctantly to spend the summer with her aunt in the countryside. Her arrival was marked by misfortune: she had been poisoned, subtly, by arsenic in the well water. Her aunt traced the source to an abandoned mine, but was trapped when the ground gave way beneath her feet. Now, it fell to Lassie to find Patty, who was on the verge of departing.
