Almost immediately, starting with the second episode, it seemed clear that this was a significant failure. The story would have been much better suited as a film or perhaps a shorter series of three or four episodes; in its present form, it’s full of issues. Even the distinctive setting and visuals couldn't save it. It took what could have been good storytelling and turned it into an odd, disconnected collection of scenes that had me wondering about fundamental questions, like whether the writers understood the concept of a clear plot or if they thought storylines were just loose guidelines. Every twist—and I hesitate to even use that term—was a bewildering jump into a void of confusion, keeping me on the edge of my seat not with excitement but because I was struggling to make sense of it all amid the gaps in the story and characters whose reasons for doing things were incredibly unclear. I’m not sure what to say about the creators' attempt to turn character development into an obscure puzzle that no one requested, though they seem to think we deserved it. I hope someone else with more skill tries something similar in terms of setting and subject matter. It’s difficult to suggest watching this drama unless you are a big fan of some of the actors involved. Jun Ji Hyun's return after roughly five years turned out to be quite disappointing, and it has lessened my anticipation for her upcoming project, "Polaris (2023)."
