The initial episodes were promising, creating a supernatural feel and thankfully avoiding excessive self-importance. However, that changes significantly around episode three. What follows is unwelcome moralizing—a preachy, didactic presentation of progressive ideas that feels out of place. The pleasant, exciting tone built up at the beginning gives way to something unsettling linked to domestic abuse. While it’s certainly a serious issue, viewers often turn to this type of entertainment as a means of escaping difficult aspects of real life rather than confronting them directly. I would have given this series a strong recommendation if it had maintained its original storyline. Unfortunately, it seems to have been repurposed as a vehicle for delivering overtly political messaging. I suggest skipping it; those with similar tastes are likely to feel frustrated and let down.
