Synopsis

Detective Inspector Morse finds himself investigating a murder committed within the serene confines of a venerable country church. The setting is hardly one for violence, and the suspects – a vicar and his devoted, unpaid assistants – seem utterly unsuitable. Among them is Ruth Rawlinson, a woman who captures Morse’s attention. As the investigation deepens, it becomes chillingly clear that a serial killer is operating in the area.
