A leak within Oxford's Foreign Examination Syndicate has brought the sale of exam secrets to light. Nicholas Quinn, a member of the board, inadvertently overhears a conversation he shouldn't, and is soon found dead in his cottage, a victim of cyanide poisoning – though Quinn was profoundly deaf.
