I found myself immediately put off by this show’s perspective on men within just the first few minutes—a remarkable feat for any program, really, especially considering my low expectations of the BBC recently. While it aims to be a crime thriller, its primary focus seems to be “the message.” From the start, we're confronted with portrayals of harmful masculinity. It’s frankly tiresome and feels like a simplistic representation. When the plot finally emerges, it becomes exaggerated and unbelievable. We see senators consulting with advisors who are former convicts, and once more, the themes of toxic masculinity take center stage. Ultimately, I consider it to be unrealistic, somewhat foolish, and burdened by familiar, polarizing social commentary. This is all despite having a respectable budget funded by UK taxpayers and featuring capable performers.
