Synopsis

The popping of corn signals the arrival of Tennessee Ernie Ford in the first part of a two-part story. He is Ernest, Lucy’s “cousin,” an earnest young man from Bent Fork, Tennessee, utterly unfamiliar with city life and, consequently, unintentionally exasperating. His departure is imminent, yet his gentle nature makes a simple dismissal unthinkable. A solution is required. Lucy decides to assume the persona of a formidable city woman, and through this guise, coax him back home.
