It feels like programs such as this exemplify what streaming services offer. This Flemish/Belgian series wouldn’t have been accessible on television in North America, yet now it's simple to appreciate its unique approach to the crime drama format reminiscent of “Broadchurch.” The story unfolds within a close-knit community where characters are intertwined with complex relationships, and centers around the death of a young woman who also harbored her own secrets. A distinctive element is that the central character will be attempting to solve her own murder throughout the series' run. I realize this concept might deter some viewers, but if you allow yourself to accept it, the show proves quite enjoyable. There’s no dwelling on explanations or supernatural elements; these things simply occur. The unusual aspects—namely, that certain people can perceive and communicate with her—are incorporated into the narrative without excessive elaboration. The central mystery presents numerous potential suspects, while the police investigation proceeds along one path officially, but another unofficially, further complicating matters. Romantic relationships are also involved, and as a result, the repercussions of the murder and its aftermath come to affect everyone in the town. This series isn’t universally appealing, but fans of shows like Témoins or The Break will likely find it rewarding.
