Growing up, I knew this program simply as "The Chicago Show," because of the Old Style Beer advertisement that appeared at the beginning. It deserves recognition—or perhaps criticism—for being the show that launched the police procedural format. Being the originator doesn’t automatically make something terrible, though. Furthermore, they not only pioneered the genre but managed to do it effectively.
