I decided to watch this show mainly because Idris Elba was in the starring role; I’m very fond of his performances, which makes my lack of enthusiasm for Hijack feel like a letdown. It seems to me that a hijacking plot could be effective within the timeframe of a movie—around 90 minutes or so. However, stretching it out into a series feels difficult. It's hard to imagine how much narrative can come from being stuck on an airplane. I’m not seeing enough substance, and as expected, the final product begins to feel tedious and repetitive, like being trapped on a very long flight. This isn't due to any shortcomings of the actors or writers; there’s simply a limited amount of material available. Ultimately, it features good performances but is restricted by the core concept that drives the show. I believe it would have been much stronger if it had been released as a roughly 90-minute television movie instead.
