Hanna functions as an adaptation of the strong 2011 film sharing its title. The casting, settings, and overall feel of the series deliberately and, it seems to me, intelligently resemble the movie. However, as is typical, the storyline moves in different directions, though the broad trajectory doesn't quite work. It’s hard to understand why an ex-CIA operative who avoids contact with others and prioritizes self-reliance would depend on the very agency he left to help him and Hanna escape. This seems odd, particularly considering his insistence on independence and a “don’t trust anyone” approach, not to mention all of his connections. These kinds of problems prevent the series from being truly good, which is disappointing because it does manage to recreate the uneasy, off-kilter atmosphere present in the original film. It's perfectly acceptable entertainment, but it doesn’t reach the same standard as the movie. I give it a 6/10.
