Synopsis

René Pape, the celebrated bass known worldwide for his interpretations of Boris Godunov, returns to the role of the tormented tsar, torn between his desires and his fears. Sebastian Weigle conducts Mussorgsky’s Russian masterpiece in its original 1869 form. Stephen Wadsworth's production vividly portrays both the plight of the Russian people and the inner turmoil of the tsar himself. The evening is hosted by Met Opera soprano Angel Blue.
