I began viewing this police series thinking Simms, who portrays Roy Grace, was the same performer as the detective in Shetland, which I consider to be very good. However, they are not the same person; there's a similarity but it’s just a coincidence that this character’s spouse is called Sandy, which is also the name of the cop in Shetland. Despite that initial confusion, I do enjoy the program. The storylines tend to be more intricate and occasionally intense compared to many other police dramas. This might be because, unlike some shows that deviate from their original narratives, each episode of Grace seems directly adapted from one of the books. The script quality is generally quite good. It's peculiar that they moved away from exploring his connection with a psychic after the initial run and didn’t revisit that element. My only real criticism regarding the writing concerns the recurring plot about Roy Grace's missing wife; it seems as if whenever he starts to develop a romantic attachment, the storyline involving his presumed-dead spouse intensifies. To me, this feels formulaic and like an easy way out in terms of storytelling. Nevertheless, I still think the show is worth your time.
