The series is truly awful; it feels as though artificial intelligence generated it by combining elements from Goosebumps stories into something predictable, overly focused on diversity initiatives, and awkwardly queer. The writing and narrative are so disregarded that within just three episodes, characters start using phrases like "toxic" and "hill you want to die on," which were never part of the 90s vernacular. It’s also filled with tired references—characters randomly drop cultural touchstones for no apparent reason. For example, people didn't frequently discuss Nirvana in 1994; that era had already passed. And nobody ever said something like, "Hey, I'm going to go get some Sunny D," unless they were pretending to be much younger. Beyond the poor writing and agenda-driven messaging, the plot itself is nonsensical. An alien arrives in 1969 and freezes people until the “heroes” accidentally activate a device? That’s the resolution of this eight-episode program. It's easy to see why audiences are abandoning Disney.
