It’s true that "Glee" is often criticized for relying on familiar tropes, but it remains something worth watching, even considering the quality dips in later seasons; there's an important point to be taken from it. From my first viewing, I connected with the characters because they were dealing with issues common to teenagers, and that’s what made the show stand out. I suggest giving it a chance—I think you will enjoy it.
