Synopsis

With Shigeshige dead, the new Shogun, Nobunobu, initiated a ruthless crackdown on the remnants of the old regime. Matsudaira and Kondo were held responsible for their failure to prevent the assassination and were condemned to death by beheading; the Shingengumi were dissolved. Bereft of direction and leadership, they now faced the daunting task of charting a new course.
