This show is worthwhile. My wife watched all of the series without me because we already had so much to watch together. She found it enjoyable and eventually I decided to check it out, and she wanted to rewatch it with me. It’s quite clever and smart, and if you're okay with each episode employing the same kind of humor and quick-paced wordplay and cultural references repeatedly, then it's really entertaining. Occasionally they stretch things a little too far, having a character who hasn’t previously displayed much wit deliver a particularly funny line. I can see why the writers wouldn’t want to let that go to waste. There are two characters reminiscent of Sam and Diane (Lorelai and Luke) in a “will they or won’t they” romantic situation—like on Cheers, where they seemed to contort every script just to get them closer to a romance, but not quite. A number of shows have used that trope since then (and likely before as well; they kept Mary Tyler Moore single as Mary Richards after she had played the housewife role in The Dick Van Dyke Show). The show maintains consistency remarkably well, especially given the high episode count per season. So even when it starts to feel a bit repetitive for me—for instance, the Kurt character really becomes tiresome because it seems he’s doing everything a minor guest character could do better; did they not want to hire more experienced actors?—it's still superior to most other programs. I generally prefer to wait until I have seen all of a show’s episodes before writing a review, since even good shows can sometimes decline or resort to unbelievable plot twists. You know, when a series does something completely out of character just to boost ratings. The phrase originated with Happy Days, when the Fonz was water skiing and literally jumped over a shark; it felt like he had gained superpowers. I don’t anticipate Gilmore Girls going in that direction, but even so I could always change this review later!
