It’s a predictable and emotionally soft production. A familiar portrayal of a man lacking intelligence is matched with a wife whose character feels bland; the filmmakers seemingly attempted to make her more interesting by adding jewelry, as if it could compensate for a lack of acting ability. The script avoids any real insight or provocation, opting instead for an extremely cautious approach that guarantees nothing will upset anyone. There isn't much to laugh at, although elements of the BBC’s usual moralizing occasionally surface.
