The individuals comprising Section 9 locate a man named Philip Kukushkin, a Russian citizen who appears to possess considerable knowledge regarding the genesis of posthuman beings.
Special operations personnel from the United States have joined forces with Section 9 in their ongoing struggle against Suzuka Mizukane, a formidable posthuman adversary.
In delving into Kukushkin's records, the Section 9 team unearthed deeply troubling details regarding an artificial intelligence program developed by the United States government.
Suspecting Purin of harboring allegiance to the Americans, the Major dispatches a team of Tachikoma to investigate her concealed history.
A chilling clarity dawned on Togusa: he had been adrift within the confines of his own recollections. The illusion shattered, and he was abruptly cast into a landscape irrevocably altered – a ravaged Tokyo, the year 2045.
