“Gelboys” follows four young men—Fou4Mod (New Chayapak), Chian (Pide Monthapoom), Bua (Leon Zech), and Baabin (PJ Mahidol)—as they navigate a pivotal period of self-discovery and first love. Initially, the characters seem preoccupied with things like nail art and online conversations, but underneath that exterior are genuinely tender individuals struggling to understand who they are. These aren’t privileged or wealthy young men; instead, they represent everyday Thai youth who rely on public transportation rather than luxury vehicles. Boss Naruebet (“I Told Sunset About You”) demonstrates a unique ability to portray this significant phase in the lives of gay teenagers with remarkable artistry and visual flair. The actors deliver compelling performances under his direction. I believe the visuals are exceptional, standing out as the finest cinematography seen in any Thai series this year. It’s truly an outstanding work, although it might take some getting used to seeing young men with decorated fingernails.
