_Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace_ stands out as an exceptionally innovative TV series from the eighties. Conceived by Garth Marenghi—a writer who achieved considerable commercial success and describes himself as a dreamweaver—and with input from his publisher, Dean Learner, _Darkplace_ initially had a limited run in Peru because it wasn't commissioned by a network. It was later broadcast internationally in 2004, during what many consider to be a period of low quality television programming, and included interviews with those involved in the production. The show follows Dr. Rick Dagless MD (Marenghi), described as highly intelligent, muscular, and surprisingly compact, along with his team—Learner, Todd Rivers, and the late Madeline Wool—as they work on the Darkplace Hospital ward, a facility that happens to have a gateway to Hell located in its basement. It’s an impressive production from someone who sees themselves as a skilled horror artist, and it's something anyone interested in television should experience; it is also responsible for Todd Rivers’ popular song “One Track Lover.”
