Synopsis

Villefort, Danglars, and Morcerf had received invitations to a solemn service, and a disquiet settled upon Albert. He felt instinctively that something was amiss, and shadowed his acquaintances as they made their way toward an ancient church. There, poised on the precipice of grief, he watched as the lid of the casket prepared to be lifted.
