Kevin Hart is back on Netflix with a brand-new competition series. With help from fellow comedians Kumail Nanjiani, Chelsea Handler, Keegan-Michael Key, Tom Segura, and Nikki Glaser, he’s looking to find the next big name in stand-up comedy by giving the winner their own Netflix special. The show's concept is appealing, and you can sense the genuine effort behind it. Still, some adjustments are needed for a second season. First, there’s the sketch comedy element. During the competition, finalists faced different challenges. One involved roasting NFL star Marshawn Lynch, which was an enjoyable episode because it showed us the contestants' vulnerability—particularly those who felt unsure about their roasting abilities. It was a welcome change from the usual stand-up performances since elimination depended on how well they completed the tasks. This makes me wonder why Keegan-Michael Key was included as a guest judge if there weren’t any sketch comedy challenges. Adding this early in the next season would not only make the episodes more varied but also allow us to see more of what the contestants can do and how they collaborate. Second, the live voting element felt off. Netflix seems determined to have live events, but switching to a live format after recording earlier episodes months before doesn’t seem like a good way to compete with shows like _America's Got Talent_. Also, expecting audience participation in the final episodes—when the winner has already been chosen by viewers—isn’t really fair to contestants who don’t have as many followers. Third, there's Kevin Hart himself. Hart is a good mentor and host, and his advice and feedback always seemed reasonable and helpful. But, as I mentioned earlier, the audience, not Kevin, chose the winner. The show is called _Funny AF with Kevin Hart_, not _Funny AF with whoever happens to be awake at 9PM EST_. Since he’s the one who begins the search, it makes sense for him to also conclude it in future seasons. Overall, the talent was outstanding—a real credit to the casting team. The level of skill was incredibly high. Because of this show, I've found a lot of new comedians to follow, and I’m excited to see what the next season holds.
