Synopsis

Two years after the Soweto uprising in 1976, P.W. Botha became Prime Minister of South Africa and declared that apartheid "must adapt or die." This marked a turning point, and Part 4 examines the reforms he implemented to preserve white supremacy. These changes, however, deeply divided Afrikaners and ignited fierce opposition from many Black South Africans.
