Synopsis

She was one of the few women directing films in the Soviet Union, and possessed a talent for navigating the system. While the state provided funding, demanding strict control over all productions, Dinara Asanova often subtly defied the rules. She would alter scripts, modify characters, and shift locations, sometimes with provocative consequences. The advantage of working within the state system, she knew, was that the budget was secure. But this came at the price of absolute authority.
