Coming to “From” with anticipation because of its connection to “Lost,” I was hoping for something special. Sadly, the EPIX series doesn’t quite reach those heights. It begins very well and has a distinct atmosphere, but the writing quality declines and the acting isn't great, which really impacts the show as it goes on. The graphic violence and genuine scares that are present early on stand out, though even these elements become tiresome over time. I felt let down after finishing the initial season. Despite the fact that a second season is planned, "From" doesn’t do enough to convince me to stick around. Looking back, I'd advise myself against watching it. I am captivated by the central mystery, but concerned about where the show is headed. The storytelling feels like J.J. Abrams—new questions are introduced seemingly at random, without any clear plan for answering them. Initially this was engaging, but the weak writing ultimately made the whole thing disappointing. If you’re into mysteries, it might be worth checking out “From,” but be prepared for some uninspired performances and a plot that feels unnecessary and like a missed chance.
