The performances from the large cast are excellent, and the storylines really do manage to portray what it was like for kids on the fringe. While the program aims for an early 1980s feel, the script doesn’t quite achieve that aesthetic. It's strange, but a production taking place in 1980 should arguably evoke more of the 1970s than the typical image of the 1980s. Surprisingly, this one instead brings to mind the high school experience of the early 1990s. Despite that, it’s still an enjoyable series that successfully balances humor and heartfelt moments.
