The second season transports viewers to 1979, splitting its focus between Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Luverne, Minnesota. We meet Lou Solverson, a young State Police officer grappling with his experiences in Vietnam, as he delves into a seemingly local crime that quickly spirals into something far more complex – involving both a regional gang and the ambitions of a powerful Kansas City syndicate. As Lou navigates this increasingly dangerous landscape, he’s aided by his father-in-law, Sheriff Hank Larsson. Their investigation pulls them into the lives of an intriguing group of individuals: Peggy Blumquist, a seemingly ordinary beautician, and her husband Ed, who works at the local butcher shop; Karl Weathers, Luverne's sharp town lawyer; Joe Bulo, the ambitious face of the syndicate’s northward push, alongside his loyal lieutenant Mike Milligan; and the formidable Gerhardt family, currently under the iron rule of matriarch Floyd.
