Synopsis

The death of his father shatters Alexander’s family, and the ensuing marriage of his mother to the austere priest Edvard Vergérus casts a further shadow. Fanny and Alexander endure the cruelty of their stepfather as a series of spectral visitors intrude upon the world of the living. This volume encompasses the Second Act, "The Wraith," and the Third Act, "The Breakup."
