An exceptionally good video game adaptation that successfully balances honoring the games’ atmosphere—particularly its dark humor—with presenting an original story suitable for television and broadening the established world. Walton Goggins is ideally suited to his role as the experienced ghoul, emerging as the clear standout performer. The other two main characters are appropriately chosen as inexperienced individuals released into a harsh, uncontrolled environment with good intentions, providing contrast to the morally ambiguous ghoul. The series incorporates the exaggerated violence characteristic of the games, along with its distinctive oddities. It successfully conveys the emotional depth that later installments attempted to achieve (and achieves it more effectively here), featuring characters possessing intricate, engaging (and frequently hidden) reasons for their actions. Central themes explored include corporate power and avarice—a pointed commentary considering Amazon’s involvement—the unavoidable nature of disagreement, and the perils of existing within an echo chamber of beliefs. The last point seems to have been missed by another reviewer. However, this isn't striving to be on par with *Oppenheimer*. Above all else, this show is simply entertaining; it comes highly recommended whether you’re familiar with the games or not.
