Synopsis

As Chris found himself the sole boy in school without a date for the ninth-grade dance, Ms. Morello gently suggested he ask the one girl also lacking an invitation, and to his surprise, she agreed. However, their pairing—across racial lines—quickly drew unwanted attention and stirred unease among some students. Simultaneously, Tonya’s insistence on ballet lessons created a considerable amount of stress for her parents.
