Eureka seveN really hits all my favorite anime elements. It’s got romance, drama, action sequences, science fiction themes, and enormous robots riding waves while firing weapons to a drum and bass soundtrack. Seriously, how could anyone dislike that? All of this is woven around a plot involving political intrigue, questions of right and wrong, and religious beliefs. Renton Thurston feels like an ordinary person, unhappy with his everyday life and hoping to become a successful lifting pro (a combination of surfing and ether technology). His father, Adrock, supposedly died while protecting the world, which has brought Renton some recognition, but he’s uncomfortable with the attention and doesn't feel he lives up to his dad’s legacy. Then, one day, a massive robot, an LFO, appears in his yard, completely changing everything. Renton embarks on an incredible journey, discovering things about existence, affection, and the nature of his world. Eureka seveN is a visually stunning adventure anime that follows Renton’s developing feelings for Eureka, an enigmatic rebel LFO pilot, as well as the activities of her group, called Gekko State. If you enjoy adventure stories, action, giant robots, romance, and music, Eureka seveN is definitely worth watching. And like me, you might find that the story sticks with you for a long time. I really can’t say enough good things about it.
