"I want to be a Samaritan," Kathy told Pete, and he stared at her, taken aback. A flicker of hostility crossed his face. Arthur was sinking deeper into himself, spending his days largely immobile in his chair. Michelle attempted to offer him some encouragement, but he snapped, telling her to leave him alone.
