I went into this series with considerable anticipation. I was looking forward to seeing how the AI Wars unfolded, and what role the Bene Gesserit, Mentats, and Navigators would play in them. We saw a brief look at the AI Wars—maybe thirty seconds’ worth...and that was it. The rest of the series focuses on something resembling a boarding school/coming-of-age story, which feels low-budget and doesn't offer any meaningful understanding of the Dune Universe. It seems HBO attempted to create a version of Game of Thrones but didn’t want to invest in doing it correctly. There are instances where the visuals of the Houses are directly copied from Game of Thrones. A somewhat amusing element is Travis Fimmel’s performance; it's interesting to compare it to his role in "Raised by Wolves." I'm disappointed because this could damage a franchise with genuine promise. So far (through the third episode), each installment has been noticeably inferior to the one preceding it. If they intend to do a second season, they need to replace all of the writers and developers and hire some people who worked on "Andor."
