The news of Sadie's new boyfriend reached Willie with a surprising jolt. He felt an immediate need to understand this young man, to assess him. But Willie’s approach wouldn't be gentle. He intended to glean information, yes, but also to subtly remind the boy of the kind of man he was – a lesson delivered with a quiet authority honed over years, a distinctly Robertson brand of paternal caution.
