I remember watching this series when I was younger and really enjoying it, so I wanted to see how it stood up now. To my surprise, it still held up pretty well. It’s not revolutionary television, but revisiting it proved worthwhile, particularly for someone who likes dragons as much as I do. The show never came across as overly juvenile either. There were a few instances that felt a bit goofy, though they didn't linger too long. The dragons consistently remained the focus, which was something I appreciated. They had a lot of variety and were very well-designed, and discovering more about them kept me interested. Each episode seemed to introduce new information about the dragons, the setting, or the people in it. Considering what they had available at the time, I think they did an admirable job. The episodic structure was a limitation for the show, but it’s likely one of the better shows structured that way. Many episodes connect back to earlier events, and there are storylines that continue across multiple seasons. My biggest issue with this series is how inconsistent the character development felt. Some characters like the twins and Snotlout were given opportunities to develop more fully. However, it seemed those advancements would vanish by the next episode. Their personalities also contribute to why they can be a bit frustrating. Their lack of skill is intended for comedic effect, but those jokes wear thin quickly. Hiccup was engaging to watch, although like the other characters, he doesn’t evolve significantly. Still, I enjoyed seeing them confront various challenges involving dragons and groups such as the Outcasts/Berserkers; each situation presented unique problems that required different solutions. The computer-generated animation works well in this series. It's not my favorite style of animation, but it suited the show nicely. There are many visually striking moments throughout the series, and it was enjoyable to watch. Ultimately, it’s a reliable show that provides an interesting look at Berk and their dragons. I would suggest this to anyone else who enjoys dragons. It isn't perfect, but it is worth checking out.
